This painting portrays an old wineskin resting next to an ancient wine bottle on a cobblestone road surrounded by ancient books. Perched on the bottle is an atlas moth, symbolizing transformation and growth. The worn wineskin and the old bottle represent knowledge that has aged and become obsolete. The moth, often a symbol of metamorphosis, suggests wisdom and understanding come only when we let go of old stale ideas to make room for new revelations.
 
Know Thyself is a meditation on the necessity of emptying oneself of outdated knowledge to receive fresh wisdom. It symbolizes the transformative journey of shedding past misconceptions to make way for divine insight, which leads to true self-knowledge and wisdom.
