My Story
Melvin D Nix
Artist
I am a self-taught artist, author, and spiritual teacher living in Charlotte, NC. While growing up in Greenville, Mississippi, I had a love and passion for art. I would often draw epic comic book panels in the margins of my school books.
After being inspired by the movie Toy Story, I started teaching myself 3d modeling and animation and eventually pursued a career in motion design.
In 2020, I revisited my desire to paint, picked up a brush, and started painting with acrylic. With each new piece, my skills grew allowing me to expand into watercolor and oil painting. My passion is to share spiritual ideas and principles designed to inspire, educate, and enlighten the human collective.
My first three-month solo exhibit was held at The Pauline Tea Bar Apothecary in 2022, followed by a one-month solo exhibit in 2023 at Nordstrom Art Lounge at Southpark Mall in Charlotte, NC.
In 2024, I became an Arts & Science Council Emerging Creator Fellowship Awardee. The grant I received allowed me to enroll in the NC Academy of Art and other art-specific programs like Mary Whyte's Art of Valor watercolor workshops for Veterans supported by the Patriot Art Foundation.
My paintings have been included in various exhibits hosted by the Hart Weitzen Gallery, QC Family Tree, Drinking Gourd Gallery in Raleigh, NC, Gallery 120 in Clover, SC, Stormwater Gallery in Columbia, SC, Casa Azul in Greensboro, NC, Art of Valor Watercolor Workshop aboard the USS Yorktown supported by the Patriot Art Foundation, Charleston, SC, and others.
My first three-month solo art exhibit in 2025, Seeds of Change will be held at the African American Atelier, Inc. in Greensboro, NC from January 19th to March 31st. I will be the featured artist during the Atelier's 35th Annual Founding Members Exhibition.
My Art Store sells watercolor, acrylic, and oil paintings. You can follow my art journey on Instagram and Threads as @MelvinDNix.
